Weekly update May 21st, 2022

Hi Everyone,

Wow-

It's been awhile. April was crazy.

Was busy with taxes and spring had finally seemed to arrive in our neck of the woods. Lots of cleanup as we have several limbs/branches that have fallen as well as lots of thatch and leaves to rake up. Worked on it between the raindrops.

I saw a cardinal pair a few mornings in early April while I was out with Macey.  Didn't have my camera with me.

When it was raining, I've been organizing/ spring cleaning and getting distracted by projects that I want to try.

Early to Mid month (around the 12th) a package went missing- I needed it to finish off my monthly exchange. Went to check the tracking - computer  or monitor died. No tech available for a few days. Got an appointment - Had to get a new computer (was 8.5yr old). Monitor still OK (although it is over 9 years old).

Saturday (16th) Picked up new computer - Had to get some new software as old one wouldn't work on this version of windows. Also replaced printer that died in January.  Still had to load some software at home.

Easter was nice. Cooked dinner for us & Mom. Sent her home with a few meals.

Monday....DH had a medical appointment.. when we got home, we started on restoring the new computer with our old backups... Strong winds that night...Internet and phone went out not just for a few hours- but  for 8 days! Power went out early Tuesday 4 am for 63+ hours. House temp dropped to low 50's. (found out our indoor/outdoor thermometer no longer worked as it was indicating outside temps in the 90's - LOL!) We had gotten 12+ inches of heavy wet snow in the Monday night/Tuesday storm. Our plow guy was on vacation in Maryland. Our town couldn't plow the road as the power pole on the right side of the driveway snapped in half..wires draped across the road on the left side of the driveway.

Still trying to remember some of my favorites as they weren't saved before our computer died. Re-learning how to do some things as the newer version of some programs is different from what I was used to.

Couldn't remember login...etc...

I made my first vinyl project bag for one of my planned beading projects....Thinking about trying to make the peyote stars. I saw several patterns on Etsy that I like.

November 2018 update- Merry Christmas exchange

Hello everyone,
I'm back again.. this time to share the nice exchange I signed up for on the 123 stitch message board.
we received our partner info - and then we went off to choose a Christmas ornament to stitch and send by November 1st. Something happened this time - our emails weren't talking to each other. But we persevered.

My partner gave me a choice of  religious, snowmen or snowflakes and santas...so I chose to stitch her:

First Noel - Nativity © Foxwood Crossings
Fabric: 32 ct PTP Gothic
Threads: DMC, WDW, GAST, Kreinik#4
Stitch Count: 35x 72, 2 over 1
Cross Stitch, Backstitch

and it wouldn't be right not to include some extras.. so I added a few other items to her package.

She treated me with this lovely joy ornament...

and look at those handmade crocheted dishcloths.. they are too beautiful to use!

The joy ornament brings back some lovely childhood memories of listening to my Mom talking about her time in school orchestra where she played the french horn, and later the youth orchestra where her instrument of choice was the violin.

Not much other stitching - it was a busy month - but I added a few stitches to :

2013BB SAL QS Mystic Garden (It is a cropped version of Peacock Garden.)
Design by Michele Sayetta Artwork by Ciro Marchetti
28ct Picture this Plus Valor
DMC & Kreinik#4
Stitch Count: 139 x 138, 1 over 1 full cross
August 2018 it was at 13580 stitches completed, Now at 14050 stitches complete...every little bit is that much closer to the finish, right?

We've been cleaning out our closets...just because.. and making space to store a few things for my parents...I came across my tub of cotton yarn - it has been in storage for awhile.. I managed to pick up my crochet hook and started working with it... but looks like I need to re-learn as my tension was off... so practice makes perfect...just have to keep working at it. Maybe this will be a winter time project.

More snow... Snowfall: November 13th...5 inches
and on the 16th...11more inches
That makes 24" in one week!

We had a very cold turkey day - Luckily For Thanksgiving I did the cooking and brought meals to my parents who live a few miles away, so I was the only one to get chilled.

Temps finally rose this week to above freezing for the first time in awhile. Unfortunately, that brought some freezing rain.. and then rain with fog... and a Monday 26th - Tuesday 27th was a mix of rain/freezing rain and about 9" of snow, which caused another power outage - this time from 4an until 1pm .  Expecting more rain and snow mix tonight / tomorrow.  Hopefully we'll keep have our power this time around.

A few night ago, three deer showed up at dusk eating at our neighbor's garden.
Until next time,
Have a wonderful day.

April 2018: Back after a long absence

Hello everyone,
Apologies for the long absence. February was a tough month. Superbowl Sunday we had about 12" of snow. The following morning Dad got the stomach flu bug. A few days later Mom had come down with it and then a week or so later it was in our house with DH & I sharing a cold for the rest of the month. March came in like a lion... we got hit with 3 coastal storms. This month we saw a touch of spring with the robins returning earlier this week before the arrival of more snow.

I mentioned on an earlier post that I had signed up for a bookmark exchange on the 123stitch message board. The exchange is over so now I can share. We listed a few of our favorite things, and since birds were on her list, I chose to stitch for my partner this lovely
Chickadee Bookmark published in the December 2008 Issue of The Cross Stitcher (US)
Design by Melinda Medeiros
Fabric: 32ct Silkweaver Spanish Moss Belfast
Threads: DMC, DMC Color Variations
Stitch Count: 34 x 87, 2 over 2
Cross Stitch, Back Stitch, Four Sided Stitch, Hem Stitch

I'm so glad my partner like it.

I listed some animals that are my favorites, and my partner selected and stitched me this lovely wolf design.

Such a beautiful job of stitching and finishing... I just adore my new bookmark.

When I finally felt better I picked up this quickie...

Christmas Log Carrier Ornament
Design by Judy Ignasiak
Published in Just Cross Stitch February 2018 Issue
Fabric: 18ct Fiddlers Light Oatmeal
Threads: DMC
Stitch count:42 x 41, 2 over 1
Cross Stitch, Backstitch, French Knots, Modified Smyrna Stitch

Next stitch was this lovely design:

Woodsy Bookmark © Design by Nicoletta Farrauto of Nikyscreations
published in the February 2018 issue of Just Cross Stitch.
Fabric: 28ct WDW Natural/Tin Roof Gingham
Threads: DMC
Stitch Count: 33 x 85, 2 over 2
Cross Stitch, Back Stitch, Smyrna

Then I picked up my beading so I could get this present for DH finished for opening week of baseball season...  These bracelet cuff patterns make really nice bookmarks.

 Miyuki delica beads
White Silamide thread
98 Rows , 36 columns

I'm currently working on another beaded bracelet cuff panel from the same etsy store (Lisa Strassheim/SmartArtsSupply) that will be finished as a bookmark - will share next month.

I also stitched up some St. Patrick's day themed smalls.. but I have to wait for the camera batteries to charge .. so I'll share those next time.

Samantha is doing fine... just had to share this ... she's must have been watching the commercials leading up to the dog show on Animal Planet.. (Actually DH sneezed- she got scared and this was the result!)

She also had a grand time with the snowfall during the coastal storms...

Stash: I saw a design by Frony Ritter (Lucky Charms) in the April 2018 issue of Just Cross Stitch. It used a metallic thread by Threadnuts.. so I went to their site and a few items hopped in my shopping cart with it. Aren't these lovely looking fibers?

This was Friday night... looks so nice - but only if you don't have to go anywhere.

Sunset Early April.

Until next time,
Have a wonderful day,
Lisa M.
